Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
I was selling a couch on OfferUp, and a user contacted me to buy the couch. They said "My son is buying it and He will be using the services of a mover for the pickup … they will be there on next long haul to pick it up.He will send a cashier’s check to cover the cost…" A cashiers check was sent for $1,025 more than what I was selling the couch for. I thought the act was suspicious and learned that sending fraudulent cashiers checks is a common scam. You cash the check, pay the ‘movers’, and the bank does catch the fake check until weeks later and the victim is left in the red.
