Initial means of contact Social media (e.g., Facebook)

I applied online (I believe through Facebook) to be a secret shopper. I received a welcome text and then a USPS envelope with instructions as a shopper and a check for $2,950. I was to deposit the check to make purchases of Nike gift cards and retain a commission of $450 for myself. I chose to collect cash at the bank and deposited the check. I used cash to purchase $2,500 of Nike gift cards from the recommended retailers. I used Lowes, Best Buy and CVS. I was also instructed to survey the experience shopping and record the store address, names of cashiers and the time it took, were they polite, did they thank me, and any other notes on my experience. I was NOT to admit I was a secret shopper if asked. However, after creating a spreadsheet of this information I also was instructed to peel off the pin number cover and send a copy of the cards to the manager, Mark Henderson. His cohort was Scott Potter, from Whole Foods Market Store Experience. I sent a fax of the cards and they requested a jpg. I became suspicious and – albeit too late – realized I was being scammed. I immediately contacted my bank who put a stop on the check and entered a fraud report. I then contacted Nike – it had been about 12 hours since the last text in the evening on a Saturday, so I was acting on a Sunday to clear things up. Nike is willing to help, but noted that the cards had already been cashed out. I also filed a police report. I also intend to go to Whole Foods since they are also being involved.
