I received a call on 06/16/2017 from a Rich Williams from a student relief company regarding a follow-up that because I had inquired about a student loan relief program. I have NEVER sought relief for my student loans. Anyhow, I told him to call me back the following week. Today (06/22/2017), I received a call a callback from him. He went into his spill about the loan and I started asking him questions, which he became pretty nervous about. He said that he worked with the Department of Education. I called the Department of Education and they DO NOT the person who picked up the phone said "No, only the Federal Government."

They called on behalf of Federal Student Loans Services and left a message stating that my monthly payment was due to increase (which is true) and I needed to contact them to discuss my options. Upon contacting them, they followed a script that seemed to ask for standard contact information and the next thing I knew, they had accessed my Federal Student Loan account at fsaid.gov AND changed my password WITHOUT my permission. I received an email at my personal email account stating that my FSA ID password had been changed. When I directly asked if the rep worked for the federal government or my loan collection company (Nelnet), the rep said no. I had to directly ask what company he works for, and he told me Mentor USA. He put me on hold and I took the opportunity to research the company online, at which point I disconnected the call. They immediately tried to call me back but I did not answer. I then followed steps to reset my password to my Federal Student Loan account at fsaid.gov. But I have no idea what private information they collected while accessing my account.
