I rent a property with Marketplace Homes, LLC, who operates out of Michigan, legally known as Marketplace Housing LLC when they conduct business in my state of Illinois. My lease agreement states that Marketplace will deduct my rent on the 25th of the month via EFT. Between June 25 and July 3, they did not process this payment. On July 6, I received an email stating that my rent payment had failed, and that fees were being applied ($50 late fee, $35 return fee). I contacted my bank, who provided me certified documentation that this payment was NEVER processed through my account. This company fraudulently claimed they processed my rent payment, which returned, so they could apply fees to my account. In addition, they refuse to provide information relating to this payment and refuse to accept anything less than what they claim is currently due, AND they have also threatened eviction when a moratorium is still in effect.
