Type of a scam Tech Support

My mom was on her computer and it started telling her that she had a ton of viruses and she was about to get hacked. It provided a number for her to call (833-809-7774) – she did call and they said that she needed all sorts of protective hardware. She gave them remote access to her computer and they downloaded a few things on her computer – after she agreed to pay them. They charged her $399 (senior discount) and another $100 for tech support. She said they "connected her with her credit card company" and was assured they were a legit company. She emailed me some of the items they sent her – they called themselves Mac Makers and said they were a global company with HQ in Virginia. When I went to find a website there was just a cover and the other links didn’t go anywhere. I called the number back and they said they were "Right Network Care" and had a HQ in California.
