Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

I was selling a stove and microwave set for $300 on Letgo. The interested buyer and I started communicating off the Letgo app and communicated via text. The exchanged messages were odd because it made me wonder if the buyer spoke English. Since they had a local number and the region I live in has a population of South Americans, I thought it was ok. The buyer wanted to send a certified check and include extra for movers. The check total was for $2500. The buyer gave specific instructions on what to do to deposit the check and what to do. Once they requested to transfer the funds rather than I get a check to pay the movers, it felt wrong. I then made calls to some friends and ended contacting both banks about the situation. By this time I was close to meeting the criminal’s goal as I had already deposit the check. Luckily I did not transfer the funds and the banks had enough time to resolve this. I provided all of the information I had to the local Sherrif’s Fraud department.
