My dad received a phone call one day and did not answer it. On returning the phone call the next day, a person claiming to be "Officer Jack Louis" informed me of an outstanding balance in regards to the IRS. Immediately, the conversation was directed to arrest warrant on my dad if he did not pay a certain amount of money by the same day. (The "officer" claimed that today was the last day to resolve the dispute, by requirement of the courthouse.) According to the IRS website, letters of notice are supposed to be mailed and we had not received any. When letting him know that we had not received such letters, he seem surprised and semi-angry as to how that was possible if it was this address. (The person managed to have correct address information and cell phone number.) He appeared to offer payment arrangements, but despite being told that we did not have that kind of cash at the time, he repeated the threat of $75,000 for other charges if it was not dealt with today, right now.
I did not provide any personally identifiable information, but when told that I would find out if I can get at least $1000, one last bit he mentioned sparked a surprise: "Do not share this situation with a third-party until the arrest warrant matter has been resolved."
