Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
It was my first time selling something on Craigslist. I was selling a Bowflex and about 30 minutes after I posted the advert he texted me from a number saying to email him. So I did and he said that he was going to send me a check in the mail and that I was to take it to my bank and deposit it immediately. He sent me around $1,500 and my bowflex was only $225. He wanted me to send the rest of the money to a Walmart transfer and send it to some person in Texas. I’m selling my Bowflex out of Oregon so it was weird that I was getting all these numbers out of state and the shippers themselves were out of state. I went to my bank to make the deposit but I asked my bank to just see if they’re could make sure it was a real check. The manager came over and looked at the name of the bank on the check and saw that Bank of the West had the wrong symbol attached to it. So it was a fraudulent check. I want to the police station that day and reported everything’s that happened and gave them the check.
