Type of a scam Advance Fee Loan

I’ve been getting letters every day, some of them look like they’re important or from the government or one of my credit card accounts. They finally included an opt-out phone line option, which I called. They had an automated system that would either take me off their list for 5 years, or I could, it prompted, remove me permanently if I GAVE THEM MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. I couldn’t get to a human being and I couldn’t get permanently removed without entering in my ss number. I have never in my life done business with them, so my social security number and all the other personal information aside from my mailing address that they were asking for is irrelevant. I had to call their main line to get removed without providing my ss number. I’m very worried about them taking advantage of someone, like the elderly or someone not bright enough to know never to give out your social security number to anyone over the phone that you’ve never done business with! I was luckily smart enough!
