Total money lost $25
Type of a scam Scholarship
Just like many others who were trying to help a kid in need to go to the college, I too got scammed. It was late in the evening and a student knocked on door requesting help by subscribing to Mercury news. I told him I get all my news online and don’t read newspapers. He acknowledged saying the same, that no one reads newspaper these days anyways and he just need some money to help him go to college. I tried every possible way to avoid him but he made me really uncomfortable and gave all emotional reasons to help a poor kid go to school. Unable to avoid him, I finally agreed and gave him $25 cash so as to not pass any credit card info. I filled the form for mercury news and opted for one time subscription. He confirmed that it is for one time and I will not be bothered again. Now I got the first notice for subscription, just a day before (It’s dated 3 weeks back) my auto renewal which I never signed up for.(There terms are tricked, which will say even if you pay for one time, you are still automatically subscribing for future, which unfortunately I read now). And the most important thing is I never received even a single newspaper ever. I am really angry with the mercury news to follow such shady practices and using the corrupt students to help them in this scam. This will make people avoid helping even the genuine students who actually need help.I am filing this complaint hoping others read this and avoid mercury news and ScamPulse.com can investigate mercury news practices.
