Type of a scam Phishing
Came in the form of a cell phone call, offering a "free GE Home Security System." Asked a series of questions about the wants and needs that I might have for the security of my home. It was an automated voice at first, but after answering "yes" to wanting such a system (I am in the middle of a home remodel, and I am looking to add a home security system), I was switched to a live operator. After asking for my name, I gave him first name only, he then ask for my zip code to be sure that I would qualify for one of the free systems. I gave him my zip, he went offline briefly, then returned to tell me they had no systems in my area, at the present time. However, they will keep my phone number, and when systems become available in my zip code, I will be contacted. – Before I hung up I did ask him who would be calling? He told me, ‘Inpact Home Security’. After I hung up though, my thoughts immediately turned to the news coverage I had heard this morning talking about the "can you hear me ok? phone scam that is currently going around. I immediately phoned the number back, and it was a recording that said "the survey you have called for is now finished. If you would like to be removed from future calls press 9." Just before I was about to press, I thought – I better not. I did search the internet, I could find no Inpact (nor Impact) Home Security.
