Type of a scam Online Purchase
I received an email response from "Holly" to a Craigslist ad I had for a car I was selling. Holly said in her email: "My father is in love with it. What’s your email where he can get in touch with you?". I responded saying..your dad can call me using the phone number in the Craigslist ad. Holly responded saying: "My father asked for your email . What’s your email address where he can reach you?" I then provided my email address.
The next day, I received a message from Billy Strife asking me about the condition of the vehicle. I responded with info. I then received another message saying that they wanted me to run a vehicle report using this website https://www.infovehiclereport.com. I checked the internet and couldn’t find anything about this website nor could I find the name Billy Strife.
When I searched the address listed in the infovehiclereport website, it shows that it was a Prudential Insurance building in Connecticut. When you enter a VIN number into the website, you learn that it will cost money for the search. I didn’t go any further because 1) I’m not paying for a VIN search and 2) I was confident that this is a scam to get your credit card info. Beware of this scenario and website.
