Type of a scam Debt Collections
I received a call on my cell phone that I did not recognize or answer. The party left a message to call Harris & Harris Ltd and they identified themselves as a bill collector. They did not reference my name, any account number, and did not give me a reference number to call back with. I returned the call from my work phone so that they would have no idea who was calling them. I told them that I received a call on a different number than I was now calling from. I did not give them my number and they did not ask for it. They immediately told me that they were trying to reach a William (I can’t remember the last name) and asked if I was him. I asked how they would even know what number that they had called or what message I was returning. It certainly sounded like a made up name. I believe if I would have called back from my cell phone they would have been more aggressive. They just said that If I wasn’t William they could not give me any other information.
