Type of a scam Phishing
This scammer knows when you order a product from The Home Depot then a few days later you get an email from "The Home Depot " with a survey request with a gift for completing it. Only thing you pay is $1.00 plus shipping. Usually about $19.00. So they charge your account for the that initial amount then later they charge your account a whole lot more. The gift turns out to be of poor quality and the amount they charge you is at least 4 to 5 times what it’s worth.

Home Depot water survey called claiming to be a third party that performs all of HDs water testing in this area. I was the lucky winner of a $20 HD gift card if I would just provide my zip code and schedule an appointment to let them in my home.
Would not tell me the name of his company
Could not verify how they got my phone number
Refused to let me speak to any supervisor

Type of a scam Sweepstakes/Lottery/Prizes
Received a phone call about winning a $500 gift card at Home Depot and I needed to call them back at a different number – 972-647-4732.
When I googled the number, 1-800 Call Notes has a list of fake calls from the number that I was supposed to call back.
I did not call them back, even though I did enter for a $500 gift card at Home Depot around Christmas. The number does not register back to Home Depot as indicated on the voicemail.
The number has now been blocked.

Type of a scam Credit Cards
I received a letter about the denial of a credit card application, which I had not initiated. I initially assumed someone had fraudulently applied for credit in my name. The letter had only my first initial and an incorrect middle initial, but my surname and address were correct. Luckily I looked up Home Depot’s number online to call them rather than calling the number on the letter. Then I realized I could not confirm that the phone number provided (423-467-6957) was for Home Depot (or for Citibank, the identified credit card company). So I assume this letter was an attempt at a scam — if I had called the number they provided, they would have tried to scam me?

Type of a scam Identity Theft
I received a Home Depot credit card in the mail for which I never applied… I don’t even shop at Home Depot. Somehow (and luckily) the credit card was sent to my home address… that’s how I found out about it. I called Home Depot immediately and closed the account. Apparently the person applied online and had all of my information. However, the telephone number they used was not mine. It was a local number, though. My husband was also a victim of identity theft, although he didn’t get a card. Instead, he got a letter from Home Depot stating that they didn’t have enough information to approve the credit card. Again, when he contacted Home Depot, he found out that the telephone number used to try to open the account was the same telephone number that was used to open one under my name.
