Type of a scam Tech Support
I clicked on a link via google on my Apple IPhone 6 and was taken to a website stating I had a virus/spyware on my phone and then an email popped up saying to contact Apple support immediately. I no longer had access to my "safari" link and only the virus prevention email/phone number was showing up on my phone. I shut my phone down and restarted it and still was unable to access anything via the internet. When I called the Apple support number, they asked for my first and last name, phone number and Apple ID user name. They then told me I indeed had a virus and I could go to store to pay a certain amount of money to get it fixed or they could do it over the phone immediately for a cheaper price. When I said I wanted to call my husband to think about it, he replied that I did not have a lot of time b/c my internet already crashed and I was in danger of losing all my photos, etc on phone. I then asked for his name and number to call back after I decided what to do. He replied with his name is "Jason" at ext. 1040 and the number is 1-800-616-1368. After I hung up, I drove to the Apple store. They did call me back within ten minutes, I did not answer. Once I got to Apple store, they told me this is a scam they see often. He was able to "fix" my internet. He blocked the phone number that I received the call from (same number that I was given to call back) and changed my Apple id password.
