Total money lost $88
Type of a scam Online Purchase
I followed a plausible link on Facebook to a page purporting to be the LL Bean Flagship Store Clearance Sale. I ordered slippers to the value of $88, paid thru Paypal. It took a little while to go through, but I discovered the next day that Paypal had paid with my CC number on file. I was suspicious because I got no immediate e-mail from the vendor, which wasn’t actually LL Bean, but which I supposed erroneously to be a company running the sale for them. I did a google search for this sale, and up popped information from news websites that it’s a scam. I immediately contacted Paypal and Facebook, changed all passwords and even got rid of cookies on my computer. Paypal launched an inquiry, and was immune to e-mails and stuff to them that it was a scam, it was terribly frustrating as I knew other people would be suckered in like I was. It’s now 10 days from opening a Resolution with Paypal, and as expected I have heard nothing, and will probably hear from Paypal in a few days. I also found the ad again on Facebook and reported it to them and have heard nothing back. Dealing with both PP and FB has been frustrating as I cannot get hold of a human to accelerate things, and this scam’s being going on for TWO months or more. I may yet get my money back, but that this scam is still going on after two months is appalling. The website I linked to looks absolutely authentic.
