Type of a scam Charity

In West Omaha, Nebraska neighborhood, around 8:00 p.m. CT, an African American woman in her mid-late 30’s rang and knocked on my door selling magazine subscriptions. She said I could donate them to one of 7 local charities listed. She gave me a story about how she was a single mom with 3 kids trying to make a living plus support charities since her brother was murdered 2 years ago in Independence, MO. At first she wanted $225 for 2 years and I said no, then wanted $105 and then $85. I said no. Then she mentioned my neighbor by name, new details of her house, her occupation, etc. She said she would give me the same offer that she gave her. She said the payment was tax deductible since it was charity. I gave her a check for $46 to cover the costs of shipping and handling. Something did not feel right when she left. I went and checked and sure enough the company has multiple complaints against it, never gives the money or magazines to charity and is basically a hole in the ground in Texas. I cancelled my account, reported it to the police, state attorney general and the credit bureau. If you see her, she said her name was Tierra Reill Lee. Don’t fall for it.
