I placed a Wanted Ad for a particular classic car. Someone reached out to me with pictures of the car and an offer to sell. He said he had lung cancer and needed the money for the hospital bills. This guy has an Indian accent. It’s almost an American accent, and I couldn’t tell for a while. He said the car was in Eugene, Oregon, where he supposedly lives. I was going to send a deposit. Then his phone number went out of service. I looked up the number and it was registered to a woman in California. He later called me from a number with an Alabama area code. He told me he lived in an apartment, but the address was for a house. He couldn’t tell me details about the car. He then asked for a direct deposit instead of a check. It all became very obvious, but it wasn’t at first! I looked up the same car and found the same car pictures on a legitimate car website in another state that said it was already sold.
