Type of a scam Tech Support
This phone number is listed online as the support number for Gmail. When I tried to confirm over the phone that this was the correct number as it was difficult to find online the lady was very evasive. My phone number and Recovery email are both listed on my account. She also required me to give my date of birth, all of which is listed on my account. I was trying to reset a password, but was currently signed into the same gmail account on my phone, i just didn’t remember my current password and the account reset using both my phone number and recovery email did not work prior to the phone call. After providing her with all information that should have been necessary to locate my account she said that I would need to give her access to my personal computer for her to verify my account. Finding this suspicious, I demanded speaking with a supervisor. I asked 3 times and she kept repeating that there was no supervisor available which again did not sound believable. She said that if I was worried it was a scam then I could just disconnect the call. When I bluffed and stated that my father was a lawyer she immediately said that she would transfer me to a supervisor, put me on hold and then hungup after a couple minutes. When I called the same number back the lady pretended me pretended there was too much static to hear me.
