Type of a scam Phishing

A company named EAS Research in Plymouth, Michigan (734-219-3296) contacted my father by phone posing as a survey research company. The person from EAS Research asked a few "survey" questions and told him that he would be put into a drawing for a $500 gas card. The company called back a few days later to let him know that while he had unfortunately not won the $500 gas card, he won a consolidation prize, either a set of gift cards or a food processor. My father was told that the prize had to be delivered in person, but there was no other obligation. He scheduled a time for the prize to be delivered, but they never showed up (he waited 5 hours). They contacted him again to reschedule the delivery of his prize. I was not able to find out much about this company online and was concerned about my father’s safety so I made sure I was at the house at the time the prize was going to be delivered. I didn’t understand why they would need to deliver a prize for completing a survey in person and was concerned about his safety and the validity of the company. When the EAS company representative arrived at the house, she told him he first had to listen to her presentation on a home air filtering system in order to receive his "prize". This was the first time that he had been told of this requirement. We told her to leave and that we were not interested. This company is misleading consumers to believe they are taking a research survey and winning a prize for doing so, when in fact they are trying to set up an in-person meeting with trusting consumers in order to try to sell their product.
