Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
My daughter, age 23, a full-time college student, received a Priority Mail envelope at her campus address with an instruction sheet and a check for $2,450.00. Everything about it was unfamiliar, so after a little research I realized that it was the classic "Mystery Shopper (or Secret Shopper) Scam". General info about the scam can be found on the ScamPulse.com site at <span title="https://www.bbb.org/article/news-releases/19227-secret-shopper-sounds-cool-until-its-a-scam.

We did not deposit the check or do anything other than reporting the scam. Also, in addition to naming Charles Benson in the letter, the return address on the envelope lists Kelsey Gilmore Williams as the sender. The return address on the envelope is 1108 Patrick Ct., Midwest City, OK 73130, but the company’s website gives the address of 9711 Holland St. Bakersfield CA 93312.

Initial contact via LinkedIn, then reached out via text message, then received 2 checks from "Prairieland Federal Credit Union", 416 Kays Dr. Normal IL 61761. Also on the check was "Alloya Corporate Federal Credit Union", Warrenville IL 60555
I never agreed to the employment, they must have taken my info from LinkedIn.
The two names used were Charles Benson, Task Supervisor for ExtraPack Shoppers Inc. and the name on the check was "Re: Mick Schroeter".
The assignment was to text 661-548-2084 once the checks were received (more than $2,000 each). Then you text the number after depositing the funds, and again after the funds are available. Then they will text you and tell you what the job is at Walmart (the specified store).

Saw a sponsored advertisement on Facebook for a mystery shopper, entered in my email address and home address. Received the attached letter and a check, found this article on bbb’s website and things are looking very similar.
