Discount Magazine Club (Kirkland, QC) has charged our credit card $57.50 per month for 10 months. We have no contract or subscription with them, and have never given out the credit card info. When we caught this, we called them. They claim (falsely), that my husband called THEM, that we agreed to 12 equal payments, that the materials were sent to us by mail, and that all this was verified with an email to an old email address (that my husband did not even know about).
They refuse to reimburse us, threatened us first with a financial penalty for cancelling our "subscription", and then legal action for breaking our "contract".
Aside from catching it sooner, I am not sure how to avoid this one, as we recall no calls from them and absolutely did not give them the credit card info.
