Type of a scam Rental
Found property listed on craigslist as fully furnished and available in one week. Price quoted was $1100 per month. Said we could not see the apt because he was up north in Hollywood and would be back Monday and people were living in it. We asked for the person that was moving out and could we contact them. He provided a phone number of someone. I requested the unit number from that person. He said 43. So we decided to go look at the property ourselves. Found out there was a leasing office there. Showed the picture of the guy and property manager said that guy has scammed other people before also. Actual rent is $1990 there, they have no unit 43 and go by letters and numbers (ie 4L).
Additionally, he said we needed to wire him the money. I said his attorney needed to verify two amounts my bank provided in order to be able to transfer money. He said she didn’t have access to online banking, then provided a Chase bank account number to put the money in.
Additionally, when we tried to do some research on the attorney we could find no information other than someone in Minnesota with the same name that makes lotions!
