I was contacted via text from directtv advising they were running a special, please contact us. I contacted the phone number 855.224.8997, and i t was a directv line. I pressed option 5 for the promotion department. I spoke with a guy named Thom. He advised that directv was partnering with Ebay, and if I decided to take advantage of the promo that my bill would be $40 for the next 2 years (I must pay 6 months in advance). He advised that you must pay for it with an ebay card. Please get an ebay card for $240, and call back with so we can set you up.I got the cards. One was $200 and one was $40. I did not know which one was which. He provided my confirmation number. The next day, I receive a text that something went wrong with my payment. He said we were not able to verify the amount on the card. I have over nighted your money back, but we need to get the payment on file. Please go and get the $240. Long story short. I got the $240, no update to account. Contacted them the following Tuesday, and he requested an additional $400

I received a call from someone at 800-490-4388 who claimed to be from Direct TV & AT&T with a special promotion to reduce our monthly bill to $69.99 without losing any channels we currently get. He then passed me to a "supervisor" who said that this was a promotion being paid for by Amazon in order to promote their gift cards on the market, and that to activate it, I would need to go to a drug store and buy an Amazon gift card for $280 to cover the first 4 months of the promotional rate. He gave me a special "direct line to promotions" to call and a promo code to give them. The direct line number he gave me was 888-401-6381. By the time he was telling me that Amazon was paying for this promo I was very suspicious, and asked if I could use the promo code online or go through billing, and he said I needed to get the gift card today and call that line with the promo card. At this point, as I was already in front of the computer, I googled Direct TV AT&T Amazon scam and immediately found that this scam has been going on since at least sometime last year and has been reported numerous times.

They claim to be DirectTv telling you they are going to add a 3 month preview of the HD package. He asked if that was ok and I said yeah. He then hung up. DirectTv has no knowledge of the phone number or the offer.

I received a call from a fake direct tv representative about the opportunity to advance pay 4 months of tv service in order to qualify for a promotion. The promotion also came with 24 months of $60 payments as the discount. Apparently the deal was to pay with an Amazon gift card from CVS or Walgreens.

DirectTV calls and says they will give you a package of channels (like the HD channel package) for free for three months because your a loyal customer. They say it normally cost X dollar. What they don’t tell you is that after the free period they will start charging you. They strongly position it as a temporary gift. After the first time catching them, I’ve received two more calls attempting to wring more money from me with this "appreciation" gift which is why I know it is a program, not an innocent mistake. What a deceitful business practice.

Call from imposter claiming to be from DIRECTTV, The caller ID on my phone showed the number calling me was (800) 531-5000, which is the DIRECTTV phone number. The caller stated that DIRECTTV and AMAZON were now partnering to offer a 50% discount on DIRECTTV service for next two years to inaugurate their partnering. Required to pay 5 months in advance by getting a $450 AMAZON gift card and giving card number to DIRECT billing at (888) 905-4846. When called that number answers as DIRECTTV and gives normal options for making payment, changing package options or speak to a rep. When get a person, asks for info on back of gift card. Says it is accepted and should get an email confirmation in a day and applied to account in a few days. Never happened. Subsequently, DIRECTTV said was a scam and somehow the caller had ability to duplicate DIRECTTV’s main number (800) 531-5000 and their answering service.
