Type of a scam Utility
Phone call stating that we owed on our electric bill. States that the last check that we had submitted was posted incorrectly to another account due to Smart Meter sending a cutoff service. Stated we needed to make a cash payment of 998.83 to avoid shutoff within 1 hour. Called Dominion Directly and was informed that my account was current and next payment was due in 4 days.

They call claiming to be Dominion Virginia Power and the automated answering service sounds like you’ve reached the utility company, asking you to press different number options. When you select #2 to talk to billing, a person picks up and asks for your business address. They state that your account is past due and that they need payment ASAP or your electric will be turned off. If you offer to pay, they then state that the shutoff will occur within the next 60 mins and to avoid this you need to pay an additional fee. I told them that they were a fraud and that I was going to call the police and they hung up on me.
