My mother (90 yrs old), received a phone call saying she was selected to win $90,000. To receive this she needed to pay the ‘taxes’ on it first. He wanted $500, she told him she only had $80, he said he would take that. He wanted her to use Western Union or get a prepaid card with the money on it from Walmart. She told him No, she wasn’t paying anything until she could verify with the bank that the check was good. He kept her on the phone for over 30 minutes. She gave him a credit card number (that was maxed out), along with the 3 digit security code on back. He also asked for her mother’s maiden name, the last 4 digits of her ss#, and her cell phone #, which she gave against my wishes. He wanted to know if she lived alone and who lived with her. He told her he was with an attorney, mentioned the Attorney General, Law Enforcement, verifying they were legitimate. He told her they would be here to give her the check in the afternoon. We called the bank and had them cancel her credit card and reissue, explaining the situation. I also set up fraud alert with the credit bureaus. He called back a couple of hours later, said he was meeting with Chase Bank President, attorneys, IRS, BBB, Attorney General to get everything set up. Asked her for the money again, she told him when she can get the check verified then she will give them the money, but not before. He called again a couple of hours later trying to get funds, and asked if she had refinanced her home or ever been evicted. said they would be at our home at 9 am the next morning. I have blocked the phone numbers from our house and her cell phone.
The name he gave was James Sanders, he had a broken accent.
He also gave the names Linda Smith, Attorney
And Marianne Smith that would be arriving at our home.
He gave her a code # USA/HTX
