Caller offered software update to Direct TV box, instructed me to unplug for ten seconds, then perform a series of operations using DTV remote. Then insisted I owed $174.99 for the update. Wanted payment by check or money order to be mailed. I refused and hung up. I then called Direct TV and confirmed the call was an attempted scam.

Caller claimed he was with DirecTV. He has called twice. First time he said I owed $57.11 and if I didn’t pay it, the amount would be turned over to collectors. I contacted AT&T. They said DirecTV will never call. Same person called again yesterday, this time claiming I owed over $200. My account is current.
