Type of a scam Identity Theft
On January 23, 2018 our home phone rang. When I picked it up a recording said, "You have a collect call from ". No one identified themselves and the recording played 2 more times. Each time I asked, "WHO is this calling? WHO is this?" I finally just hung up the receiver.
This week I received my bank statement and there was a charge listed as" POINT OF SALE DEBIT PURCHSE CTI – PAID CALL S 866-898-5880 in this amount of $6.96". I called my bank and they said I should try calling the number listed, which I did. I was informed a collect call had been placed from a local JAIL, that the call WAS RECORDED and the billing was correct. I asked for their recording, but they "couldn’t pull it up right now". I NEVER accepted that call and the only words I said were, "WHO IS THIS?" They stand with the charge. My bank indicated I could have put a stop on my account and list fraud, but I would be without a card for days while they investigated. I do not want to be without my debit card and the charge of $6.96 was not worth putting a stop on the account. I believe this company KNOWS that. Looking up complaints online, there are many, many stories like mine against Custom Teleconnect.
