Type of a scam Phishing
Phone call on Saturday at 3pm on 10/28/2017 from very aggressive male who stated that a jury summons had been ignored by a member of household. Person on phone gave wrong name of supposed missed juror, which made me suspicious of a scam. Person stated that ignoring a jury summons was a "Class C Misdemeanor" and an arrest would be made if no payment was received. Referred to "Honorable Annie Johnson" and "Deputy Jeff Maddox".
Said that bonding vouchers must be purchased using "green dot money pack" available at a kiosk. He also stated that due to confidentiality rules, I was not to talk to anyone about the situation. Seemed strange to cite confidentiality when he was already discussing supposed legal business about a third party who was not present. He was very insistent to have my cell phone number so he could give me a "mobile escort" while I was to go to the kiosk and get the money.
I asked for his supervisor’s name and phone number and was given the same number he was calling from (206) 319-9196. I informed him that I would consult an attorney about the situation and visit the sheriff’s office on Monday to find out more. He hung up the phone. I called the number he was calling from and was given a choice of 3 extensions which also seemed strange for a major law enforcement office. I chose one and was put on hold music indefinitely. This sounds much like the jury scam reported on several news sites over the past year.
