“Karen Dawson” initially texted me from “1-801-207-7930“ about a car I posted for sale. I used the websites Cars.com to post my ad. She expressed interest in my car, but stated that she had further questions about the car but for some reason needed my email to ask them… That was already a red flag. When the email came through, it went straight to spam of course. It was a lengthy email stating her interest in the car. No questions were asked. Instead she voiced concern about getting a full VIN report for the car I am selling and added a sentimental touch to it. The website she directed me to is, InsightVin.com which is a known website used to get the VIN number and credit card information (and other) of unsuspecting individuals selling their cars online privately. As far as I know, the scam isn’t mostly associated with posting the car for sale on Cars.com. The email she emailed from is, [email protected]

I work in Fraud Prevention myself, and upon further research my suspicion seems true. Other reports have popped up on the ScamPulse.com website, so I thought I would add my “two cents” as well. Others beware.

First I got a text saying they saw my ad to sell my car online and to send my email address because they didn’t have time to talk.

Secondly, they emailed me asking to provide a car report and suggested I used the website listed above.
