Type of a scam Online Purchase
I wanted to purchase a 1971 big block corvette for my husband who has had a cancer operation. I live in Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia, though on this scam report there is no place for an Australian address. I saw the car of his dreams on the website of CCClassic cars and transport, Kellogg, Idaho, USA. After 23 emails and some phone conversations I decided to purchase the vehicle. The scammer, Peter Russo, sent me an invoice ($16,888 USA which was $21,946.72 Australian). I had arranged for a mechanic in Kellogg to look at the vehicle, but as the Australian dollar appeared to be falling against the green back, and as this was my husband’s dream vehicle and in such excellent condition, I went ahead with the purchase. After all a guarantee went with the sale.
I paid for the vehicle in full on the Thursday and on the next Monday afternoon I found that I had been scammed. The mechanic from Kellogg emailed me to say that he went to the address given (which was at that time 117 W Cameron Ave, Kellogg – the scammer has changed it to Bunker Ave since). I tried to recall the funds, but the scammer had them. The scammer also gave a false address for the Bank of America into which the payment was to be sent. By tracing the routing number I found that that bank was actually in Richmond, Virginia. Peter Russo’s CCClassic cars and transport website appears to have originated in France.
