Type of a scam Tech Support

Had a man claiming to be a DirecTV Tech call and said that I should leave my television on for the next 20 minutes so that they could check how their new satellite was corresponding with my receiver. A half-hour later they called back to inform that my receiver would have to be upgraded to the next generation to match up with the new satellite. The shipping cost on the new receiver and deposit would be $150. They would be able to give me deals on other aspects of my DirecTV package to offset the costs plus some other package perks like free NFL ticket for a year. They would need me to confirm the first 8 digits of my credit card to complete the transaction though. I did not provide them the info. I told them that I would have to confirm their legitimacy and that I would call them back after I did. The man provided his first name: Steve, his employee ID number: 440, and the number to reach him back: 8003886597. I then phoned DirecTV and they confirmed it was a scam. These guys were very convincing and had all of the info regarding my DirecTV account: account number, address, details of my plan, when I started service, and even the last 4 digits of the credit card that I use for autopay.
