Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
This person contacted Alloway Lighting, the company I work for requesting pricing on Chandeliers. The order came to $28,000. They eventually gave me a phone number but never answered or called me back. First they asked if they could wire the money. We told them no, that we could only accept a check, cash, or a credit card. They then asked if they could send a two party check. I told them that would be fine as long as the check cleared and the funds were verified before we ordered the lights. They gave me a shipping address that was in Long Beach, Calif. I googled it and it was a container yard near a train track. The phone number they gave me was a Denver, Colorado number. We knew at this point that this was a scam, but I continued acting as though the order would be placed. They sent a check in the amount of $48,240 which was $20,000 over the amount quoted. They contacted me the day we received the check via US Priority Mail, and were very anxious that we cash the check immediately. The check was from a Company called Calphad, Inc. in Brookline, MA and the Bank was M & T Bank out of State College, PA. The check was printed crooked on the page and looked fake. I heard from them asking me for an update. BTW, their english was poor in written form. I sent back an e-mail telling them that knew it was a scam and that we would be reporting them to the ScamPulse.com and the police
