Type of a scam Debt Collections
This number has called me a few times in the past few days. I finally answered & the man said he was calling in reference to a bill from "Fenton Emergency Group" for my outstanding balance of $1,538. He threatened that if I didn’t pay it today, they would be forced to take further collection actions. This bill from the hospital popped up on my credit report 6 months or so ago. I called the collection agency and my insurance company & it was taken care of within days & removed from my credit report a few weeks later so I was surprised to hear someone calling about this again. I told him I had a letter from my insurance company stating that the account was paid & has been closed & he called me a liar & said that it just can’t be true. I asked for the name of his company so I could have my insurance company send them proof & he got enraged, yelling that you account was delinquent and needed to be paid in full today to avoid reprocussions. I asked again for the name of his company & told him I would have it taken care of TODAY & he went silent, then hung up. I’m not sure how he had this info, but if this were a legitimate company, he would’ve given me the info necessary to verify that it had been taken care of. Beware of these types of scams!!
