Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

Just been temporarily laid off of my job due to the Coronavirus like so many people have. And like so many people was looking for a temporary employment. Posted for a Data Entry/Administrative Assistant (Remote) job. With the situation with the coronavirus I really was trying to find a remote job so that I can do my part in staying home. Received a text message which stated that they’ve received my application and would like to schedule a hangout interview the next day. Never had a hangout interview but with the status of everything going on just took it as they need to find other ways to conduct interview. Interview was a question and answer session all through hangout. They said they will update me the next day to advise the status of the interview results. Next day, another hangout session, I was advised that I got the job. Told me that I will be needing to purchase my equipment. They will be sending a check and wanted me to deposit the check and send the a copy of the deposit slip. Once cleared I was then to go through a "vendor" to order my equipment. They said that this "vendor" works with the company and is aware of what needs to be loaded onto the laptop I was to be ordering. They asked me to once again go on hangout the next day to receive the tracking number. Next day comes and the hangout conversation we had is no longer showing, I had to add this person back to invite him to a chat and it doesn’t go through. Reached out to him via email and he insisted that we communicate via hangout. He sent me an invitation and never got it. Red flags are going up as I was already feeling fishy about this whole process. He finally emails me the tracking number and the check arrived shortly after. When I saw the amount of the check I was asking myself "Are they out of their minds?" It was for a $37,000 and it came with a letter (mind you – not on company letterhead, just a plain white sheet of paper) with instructions of what I needed to do with the check. The email address they wanted me to send a copy of the deposit slip to was an aol.com address. Major red flag for me. At this point I was not moving forward with this. The person I have been communicating with emailed me letting me know "check your door, package delivered", followed by I need you to deposit this check now" message. So my advise to anyone reading this any invitation to a hangout interview, decline, decline and decline. This seems like the new thing the scammers are using to take advantage of people. Its unfortunate that in the status we are currently in there are people out there doing this. So needless to say, I kept the check only to use as evidence in case I need it but it will NEVER be cashed.

Type of a scam Employment

I received a job offer via text message.

I looked up the company, "Wipro Limited" and called to verify. The receptionist confirmed that they do not conduct interviews using google hangout and that it was a scam.
