Type of a scam Employment

I was contacted by a text from a woman named Florence *** from Wearable Technologies, she told me she reviewed my resume on a professional job board and I was selected to undergo the primary job briefing and interview session. She told me it was online work from home at an hourly rate of $25.00 an hour. (red flag)! I asked for more info and she asked me if I had telegram messaging and then sent me a link, https://t.me/matthews*** wearabletech, I went to it, started an interview that lasted hours!! Sounded legit but in the back of my mind I kept doubting it but continued with the interview anyway. When I had questions about the job, he had all the answers. After he checked with his HR dept. I was found to be a perfect candidate for the job. It got a little fishy when he asked me if I was familiar with about 24 different programs, when I said not all he said the funds for the software will be provided for you by the company via check. I will receive the check very soon so he wants me to be the lookout for it, report online as soon as I have it so he can give me further instructions and refer me to the vendor I will be purchasing the materials from and assumed my name provided earlier was the same on my bank info. I told him not to send me the check I didn’t think I wanted the job and didn’t want all those programs on my computer the next statement from him was "no no the company will provide you with a new apple laptop which would have those programs installed in them and the time tracker.

Facebook ad posted with job opertunity. She advised me interview would be conducted via google hangouts which seemed offputting. They advised me they would direct deposit me funds to purchase the software required to get started. When I checked my account, they had somehow used mobile deposit to deposit a mobile cheque and were trying to etransfer the funds out.

I immediately identified that this was a scam at this point, cancelled the e-transfer, changed my password and called my bank who marked it as fraud so they didn’t suceed in their little scheme. I feel silly for falling for it but as you can see from conversation below they take extreme measures to sell their scheme. The male I was speaking to was impersonating the Senior Consultant of the company.

I’ve copied and pasted a portion of our conversation below.

Total money lost $1,500

Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

I was contacted at first via text by a Helen Fagart. She texted me about a job working from home and how they were going to pay me for all my materials. She told me to download the telegram app and add their HR person Mr. Greg Varner. On the app he contacted me right away and asked some questions and did an interview/debriefing interview all online. Afterwards they told me the next day they were going to contact me to see if I got the job. Some job titles they mentioned were : Data Entry, Receptionist, Administrative Assistance, Call center receptionist, payroll assistant, accounting, management, and front desk receptionist. They sent me a check for 9,900 in the mail and told me to deposit it as a start up check. Afterwards , they wanted me to go to a store and buy ebay gift cards (red flag I know) (that is where the 1,500 were lost) because they said the vender only accepted that as a form of payment. Afterwards said I could pick up some Sprint phones already pay for by the company and how I wouldn’t need to purchase anything , all paid expenses. Then when I stopped is when they wanted me to send the phones via Fedex to them for installing apps and making sure its up to company standard. I told them I could install any apps. And the following days insisted and basically threatening me saying I was required to send the phones. Lied and said the Sprint bill would be cleared in 24-72 hours. Little did they know I already returned the phones (It was 4 phone) I know huge red flag, when I asked why so many phones they said for insurance purposes ( Does not make sense)

I received a text from "Lavoris Walker" 517-798-6929, who said they were a recruiter from Wearable Technologies and received my resume from Indeed. I was asked to contact hiring manager "Linda Cambell" through Googoe Hangouts, with the e-mail [email protected] "Linda" asked me for my full name, address, email, and who I banked with, then proceeded to tell me "she" was sending a check to purchase office equipment. I tried to call "Lavoris" at the number I was texted from to ask questions, but I got a message that the number was no longer in service.

Type of a scam Employment

I was contacted by this company via text message. I was then directed to add them to my google hangouts. My whole interview for the job took about 45 minutes. They asked legitimate questions but I thought it was strange when I kept getting praise for all my answers. After the interview I was told that I would be contacted the next morning to go over the results of my interview. The next day I was told that I did great and that I got the job. I never spoke to someone in person. My starting pay offer was $59 an hour plus benefits. All work would be done from home. When I was contacted by the company regarding the job I asked them what job do I qualify for? They then asked me what job do I want. I thought this was very odd. My biggest red flag was the simple fact that I was being offered a job with significant pay by a company that never did a face to face interview or even an actual phone conversation. When I checked out the company via linkedin I notice that everyone was young and attractive. It just didn’t feel right. My biggest red flag was when I was asked for my details along with my picture and then I was sent a document via email asking for my banking details. Once again I never talked to anyone over the phone or in person. Everything was done through google hangouts which seemed highly unprofessional for such a significant company offering a very comfortable salary all through two online chats via google hangouts. If your gut is yelling red flag I advise you to listen.

Type of a scam Employment

I was contacted first by text message about a job opportunity. The first red flag to me was that they had my last name spelt wrong, in my experience any job that is contacting you about a possible job opportunities will have your name spelt correctly. Then he proceeded to ask me if I had a gmail account for him to contact me through hangouts. I gave him my email so I would have a chance to get as much information as possible to report them. He then messaged me through hangout through the name Edward (last name started with a C but thats all i can remember) about the"job opportunity" and said he was from wearable technologies and even sent me a website page; he was very unprofessional and impatient. If i didnt responsed to the mesaage within 5 minutes he would send a question mark, which was another red flag to me because employers or possible employers dont email with just a question mark. He then gave me a list of the "available jobs" they had, which was also very odd to me; any job i have had contact me is trying to hire for a certain position but he has a list of about 10 and said i could pick from any of them. All the jobs he listed required some kind of degree (which i knew because i had done research on those positions in the past as an interest of mine) and I asked if was required to have any kind of collage degree to which he responded no.The positions were like data entry, medical assistant, customer service rep, another kind of data processing position, assistant and many more. He said that they were based in Germany and San Francisco California. He told me the job was an at home position and that I could work from anywhere and asked if that was something I could handle. He also said the job was 35$ an hr 40hrs a week and 30$ an hr during training. He also said he would supply me with a laptop and any other equipment I may need for the position. I then informed him that i knew it was a scam because he wasnt registered with the ScamPulse.com and didnt have a rating (which as far as i understand is a requirement in the United States) and that his job didnt exist. He then told me that it was a real job and to look at their website; which didnt actually have any information about the "business", who they were, what they do, where they are based. The website just had different information about wearable technology and what wearable tech is and where it goes on or in the body, there wasn’t even a career section. I personally didnt give him any of my information except past jobs i have had and my state location. The questions he would ask me were strange and didnt sound like what a real employer would say. Instead of asking what my responsibilities were in certain jobs he asked me questions like what kind of experience do I have and why should he hire me, when he should already have my experience from my resume and he contacted me for the job not the other way around so why he would ask me why he should hire me didnt make sense.

Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

I had a woman reach out to me by text message. She got my information off of a job website. Then she started emailing me about this work from home online position. I received a check in the mail today. They said they were in CA, but the check came from Matthews, NC and the bank information that was on the check was from FL. I went to my bank and my bank said they could not cash the check because there were no account numbers on it. I left the check with my bank because they said they would send it to their main office for investigation into check fraud.

Today, 9/7/2018, at 11:02 am I was contacted by a Nora Joel at +1 (805) 769-4957 claiming to be from Wearable Technologies. I was told that they would like to conduct an interview online with Mr. Kevin Lloyd at [email protected] When I logged into my email to contact "Mr. Kevin Lloyd" I was sent a link to the companies website: https://www.wearable-technologies.com. I was then immediately asked if I preferred to be paid by check or direct deposit. From there I was asked personal information and repeatedly said that I would not provide my banking information. It was then explained that my account would be credited money to pay for the equipment I would use once I was hired. I believe this to be an employment scam.

This is exactly what I was told and happened to me. "Before I begin, let me be clear that Wearable Technologies is a legitimate and innovative company that has nothing to do with the attempted scam. The scammers were very clever, using real employee names and a real person’s photo as their default picture on Hangouts. I initially received a text message from a manager with WT. They indicated they had received my resume and that they were reaching out to conduct a briefing and interview. As my resume is not stored online (to my knowledge!), I approached it as possibly legit but also was very guarded. They invited me to log into Google Hangouts for the briefing and interview. During the interview, normal questions about what I could bring and strengths/weaknesses, etc were asked and I was advised to log in at 9am the next morning for an update. The next morning, I was offered the position and received, via email, an offer and welcome letter, and I9, W4 and Direct Deposit forms. I was also told I would receive a check with which to buy materials and would receive specific instructions AFTER I deposited the money. Fortunately, all they got from me was my name and address (and a picture which they claim was for an ID badge, though it is a work from home position). After listening to my inner red flags, I did research how these types of people will scam you into depositing counterfeit checks and taking out money that isn’t even there. In retrospect, there are so many red flags it’s not even funny. But really, if it sounds too good to be true (promised me $45 an hour), it probably is. This matter is not yet resolved, they still think I’m going to cash the check. I’m posting it now because I’m guessing they are also scamming other people. If you got a message from someone purporting to be from WT (Johanna Mischke, not the REAL one), be extremely cautious."
