Type of a scam Employment

A LinkedIn message was sent to me from a person in an authoritative position at a plastics packaging company. There was a weblink inside of the message to http://unseen-shoppers.com/apply-now; to sign up to be a mystery shopper. An email followed shortly from Paul Pruitt ([email protected]) and a text message from number (802) 328-6400 asking to accept the email and confirm participation in the program.

Approximately two days later, another email was sent to my address stating: "Good Morning, your first assignment check of USD $2900.50 has been posted via USPS Priority Mail. The package should get to you by Friday 19th February or 20th depending on your USPS delivery schedule. The email also contains instructions to:

1: Proceed to your bank or credit union to have the check deposited. Funds will be made available immediately or in 24 hours.

2: Deduct USD $350 as your commission and logistics fee.

3: Proceed to the nearest Store with Onevanilla Prepaid Cards. (CVS, Dollar Stores, 7-Eleven, Walmart etc.)

4: Purchase 5 Onevanilla Prepaid Visa or Mastercard at store (see attached "Samples" of card).

5: Go to register and add cash of $500 to each card

6: Evaluate the quality of customer service delivery, i.e. condition and arrangement of cards at the store and fill out your observation in the Feedback Section below (Page 2).

Note: Under no circumstances should you acknowledge you are evaluating their services as that will deter the purpose of the program. If asked if you are a mystery shopper, kindly answer NO.

There is also an attached PDF document which states to take pictures of the front and back of the cards after they are purchased and send an email back to Paul Pruitt (Assistant Project Manager.) with the images attached.

The fraud occurs when the victim deposits the check and withdraws the funds. Since the check is not valid, no funds exist and the depositor is left on the hook for the full amount withdrawn.
