i was making a call today at about 2p on 12/18/15 to an insurance company. when i called their 800-657-8205 number apparently the call was intercepted by a fraudulent party. their usual company info was recorded on the opening of the call stating the insurance company name & to hold for assistance. then a foreigner-sounding man named Ben answered & said i was the winner of a $100 rebate. i asked if that meant i would get $100 off of my insurance premium. he stated "no" that this would be a $100 voucher that could be used anywhere. then he proceeded to say it would only cost $4.95 for shipping of the voucher and he requested a debit or credit card number. i refused to give him this info & said i just wanted to talk to someone about my policy. when he persisted, i continued to refuse & he finally just hung up on me. after about another 1/2 hour of trying to reach an individual at the insurance company, i finally got a rep & told her what happened. she apparantly gave the info to a supervisor. since this was open enrollment time for health insurance, i’m hoping the mass number of people calling about insurance did not fall for this.
