Type of a scam Debt Collections
Received a call from phone number 424-265-7835 TPS advising I was being subpoenaed for a court case (deposed) I was apparently being sued for a past due debt I did not pay, when I inquired I was told it was for Bank of America an account they showed I opened in 2007 a past due balance of $2,200 was now over $5k due to penalties and interest. The lady I spoke with even had my social security number, I asked for proof because I pay all my bills timely and have a high score over 700. The lady said she can help me arrange payments and I won’t have to go to court I said no I need proof of what you are alleging she said you will have to go to court to prove my case. She said they will garnish up to 30% of my wages I said no this is a mistake I even checked my credit report which shows my Bank of America account was open in 2006 and closed in 2012 as paid and nothing negative on my credit report because I pay my bills timely. When I explained this to her she gave me an account number and said I can call Bank of America charge off dept, so I called and they said there is no past due balance my account is closed. I called the lady back and said something is very wrong I called the number and there is no past due balance, she said well this must be a mix up I don’t have to go to court and the case is returned to her client, they will call me directly. I haven’t heard anything since. It’s very concerning that this company has my social security number and when they initially called they called my boss at work and told him I am being deposed for this court case. They also threatened me with wage garnishment and court This was very frightening and if someone is scared enough they could give in and pay towards this scam, please look into this not sure if you can get the FBI involved I don’t want an innocent person to get scammed in the future or them potentially putting false charges on a credit report because they have people’s social security numbers.
