Type of a scam Tech Support

On April 28, 2017, my wife discovered that our laptop screen froze and displayed a

message in old type face indicating that our laptop was supposedly corrupted and we

needed to remedy the problem by contacting Microsoft immediately. My wife

proceeded to call the number provided and our call was answered by a man with a

thick Asian accent who said he was a representative of Tech Pro Busters, and

represented himself and his company as contractor for Microsoft. They proceeded to

assure us that they could fix the computer, requested and were granted remote

access by my wife, and diagnosed that we had been victims of malware. They said

that they could fix the computer remotely for $249.99, and insisted that in order to

protect our credit card information that could be in hands of those that hacked our

computer, we needed to provide checking account information, which we did. We

were reluctant at various stages, but he was convincing and insistent that time was of

the escence. Our computer was again operable, until three weeks ago, at which time

our computer seemed to freeze and break completely, which was only three days after

we received a call/voicemail from Tech Pro Busters reminding us that we were due for

a service checkup. We took the computer into a technician in our town for analysis,

and they confirmed that Tech Pro Busters is one of many companies that scams

consumers by breaking computers and holding them hostage until consumers pay to

repair what they broke. We received numerous calls in the last week from unknown

numbers and California numbers insisting that they fix our computer, and stating that

their company has gone out of business and in order to refund our money, they need

to access our computer again to remove software.
