Type of a scam Online Purchase
I recently purchased (for $1,156.68) a roof-top tent from this company also called "4 Wheel Parts", and "Smittybiltdepot". The tent was shown as being in stock. When several weeks passed with no delivery notification I called the company only to find out that the tent had been back ordered with no estimate of when one would be available. My copy of the invoice stated that payment would not be deducted from my PayPal account until shipment occurred, but when I checked I found that the total amount had been withdrawn the same day that I placed the order. When I called to cancel the order and demand a refund the company representative sent me a cancellation invoice but failed to refund the money to my PayPal account. Now, having just called the company again I have been told that the item was shipped despite my cancelling the order and because of this they can’t refund payment until I return the item. So its a pretty blatant scam regardless of whether this is due to incompetence or is intentional. Based on the other reviews of this company that I have read, this seems to be a common problem with this company and it is not clear to me whether any of these other victims have ever gotten their money back.
