Type of a scam Debt Collections

Found an open collection on my credit report in July, ultimately bringing my credit score down significantly (I am in the process of obtaining a mortgage which I was approved for and now cannot close because there is an open collection). The collection was allegedly opened December 2013, for a joint medical responsibility account for a LI Pathology & Lab Consultants. I contacted my doctor’s offices and contacted the original creditor, all of which have no record of a bill in the amount the debt collection agency, Stellar Collections Service, alleges. I have contacted this business on numerous occasions, with each person being ruder than the next, if you can even get ahold of someone. No one returns phone calls, I have asked for correspondence, as I have never received any type of invoice (email or mail) ever. I was supposed to close on my first home in August, and have been ‘homeless’ ever since, having given up my apartment at that time. I disputed through Transunion and the company removed the collection, however, they have not and (according to Experian) will not remove the collection from their report, as they have confirmed they have my sensitive personal information. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place, where I just want to pay this $323 so I can move forward with closing on my first home, but feel conflicted in allowing a fraudulent/scam company the ability to take advantage of me, and various others. Every complaint I read on this company has the same narrative: ‘applying for a big money loan, randomly a collection appears, unable to contact’. I have contacted all the credit bureaus, including the CPFB and FTC, as well as the BBB.
