Type of a scam Debt Collections
Both my parents and my in-laws were called by this company asking them to have me call them regarding a law suit over debt collections. I called them back and was told I was being sued over a credit card I had opened and defaulted on. The credit card was HSBC – Household Bank Credit account and I owed $2,081. He said they tried to get a hold of me back on January 15th and 3 times since sent me correspondence to which he claims I never responded to. He then asked to verify all my personnel information – name, address, phone, social security number, work address and phone in order to proceed with the claim. Here’s the scary part – I did not give him any information about myself – this guy knew all of it already – he asked me to confirm all of it after he told me what it was to which I did not do. No way was I going to give this guy any information. This is also scary that he had enough information to also call my parents and in-laws looking for me. I told him to go ahead and sue me, then I hung up on him.
