Type of a scam Identity Theft
Received a phone call at home from a William Brown identifying himself as being with Immigration and Customs. He said my SSN had been associated with drug trafficking activity in North Carolina. I asked how I could verify who he was. He said he was an agent and that I could work with him or he could have me taken into custody and then I would work with him. I said I would prefer that as there are too many scams today and I need to know proof. He took me to the legitimate ice.gov site associated with Homeland Security. He had me click on a couple of links. He had me find a department and the phone number and said he was hanging up and that he would call me from that number. He said to verify the caller if before I answered. Before he could call back, I called the same number and asked the lady who answered if I was receiving a legitimate call. At that time I did receive a call from the number on the website, but did not answer. The lady I was on the phone with said they do not make calls like that. This scammer is ghosting Homeland Security phone numbers to further his scam.
