Type of a scam Utility
We received a phone call saying that it was from I & M & that our power would be shut off in 1/2 hour to an hour due to non payment of our bill. Instructed us to call (800-519-4770) & we would be directed to get it taken care of. I then made sure bills were paid & up to date then called I & M (phone number on bill) told them & they verified that we owed nothing & that it was prob. a scam. They suggested I call 911 & report, which I did. A detective from the Ft Wayne police dept. called me back & got all info. He then later called back & verified that it was INDEED a scam. He then said he would pass on to anyone that he could to get the word out. He also instructed me to report to ScamPulse.com which I have done. Further more..BOTH the Detective & I & M said that ANY issues with the government, utilities, computer issues or the courts HAVE to contact you by U.S. Mail before they can disconnect or turn you over to a collection agency about any non payment or legal issues. SO DO NOT EVER CALL THE NUMBERS GIVEN BY A PHONE CALL OR MESSAGE. Instead Call the company or person involved directly & resolve through them personally.
