Spoofed CenturyLink

Type of a scam Phishing

I was needing to cancel my account with CenturyLink, so I looked up CenturyLink Customer Service. The very first number and website that comes up looks legit and I thought it was the right place. So I called the number they had listed and got someone that spoke broken English, which isn’t uncommon, but he didn’t ask for an account number, just the number connected to this account, so I gave him my phone number. He then asked "what is the address connected to this account?" So I gave him my address, to which he replied "No, we need your home address." I said "this is my address", then repeated it again. He then hung up and I had one of those "Oh crap" moments.

I finally found an actual paper that had the centurylink customer service number, I called them and explained to that person what had happened and asked her if she could check and see if that phone number was legit and one of theirs. After a minute she said, "No, this phone number is not ours."

Everything looked like it checked out, but I think I gave my info to some [censored].
