I have a home mortgage with Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU). For the last couple years, I’ve received periodic spam mail from a "Navy Fcu" which is not my financial institution. The spam offers the typical too good to be true, below market rate loans (the most recent, mortgage refinance for 2.75%). Today (21 May) I receive another, with one important distinction: it named the actual financial institution, Sovereign Lending Group, Incorporated, in a non-affiliation statement at the bottom of the ad.
Navy Federal Credit Union serves members of the Department of Defense and their families. I have been unable to find any affiliation between Sovereign Lending Group Inc. and the Navy, or any basis for using "Fcu" in its advertising.
