Social Security

Adrian – Nov 17, 2020

I was called on Friday, November 13th with the following story.

I initially spoke to an “Officer David Wilson”, Badge #SSA743, in which he indicated I had a warrant for my arrest in the state of Washington. He alleged that my name and SSN was used to rent a Toyota Corolla and that I was being charged with 3 violations for drug trafficking, human trafficking and money laundering. I was provided with Case ID# CA4685631 and Warrant ID# CA6931. I was told that my SSN needed to be changed and that I had to prove my innocence by cooperating with them. I was later transferred to Benjamin S Alpert (not real name of course), Badge #SSA1500775. I looked up his badge # online and it showed his name under the Office of Inspector General. I was told that I was under surveillance and that I could not speak to anyone and that they were monitoring my phone calls. Mr. Alpert also indicated that if I told anyone, the police would be called due to my warrant and I would go to jail. I was also told that I was looking at 14 years in prison and potentially $85k in legal fees. After about an hour of being questioned, I was told that I needed to liquidate my checking & savings otherwise my accounts would be frozen. Mr. Alpert stayed on the phone with me as I got in my car, went to my back and proceeded with the “steps” to prove my innocence.

I was instructed to go to my bank and just leave $1,000 in my savings and checking. Fortunately I left more than that, but Mr. Alpert stayed on the phone while I was in the bank and I was told to remain calm and not provide any details. I was then told that I needed to go to Kroger or Food Lion and purchase gift cards with this money. When I questioned that, I was told that this shows “good faith” and that I could not have liquid cash but it needed to be gift cards. The gift cards had to be Nike, Target or Best Buy. When the gift cards were purchased, I had to take pictures of them to send to Mr. Alpert. I was told that I would be reimbursed this money via cashier’s check.

Anytime I tried to dispute and question, Mr. Alpert had an answer. Fortunately I started to feel very strange and did not complete this with all of my cash, but still lost thousands of dollars to this scam. I asked Mr. Alpert for a picture of his badge which he sent to me when the transactions were complete. The picture was of an actor.

When I told Mr. Alpert that I was heading home and wasn’t going to do this anymore, he was irritated and told me that I needed to only do what he was instructing. The phone numbers he provided were shortly put out of service.

I hope folks read this and are not found victimized.

A person stating her name was Maria, left a message on my voicemail stating that she was from the social security administration and that my social security was being suspended. It asked for me to press one to rectify this situation. I am grateful that I was able to have the call screened so I didn’t answer it. I will not call the number back but I will call the social security administration. I know that they will tell me that they did not call me. I’m not sure what the caller was trying to get from me or my phone. I know that the social security office does not reach out to people like in this way. They normally would send a letter.

It all started in March, 2020, I received a phone call stating my Social Security number had been stolen and some one in Los Angeles and Texas was using it. They gave me a Case ID #DC78692 and a Warrant ID#DX5941. They said hey were using it to purchase a house and drug trafficking and money laundering. One of them was named Michael Gray SSA #64829 and he said it was used in Texas, another one was name Jacob Hyman SSA #1495, Case CS1104301924. Another one was Sean, no last name given, phone #609-447-2735; he kept saying I would be arrested if I didn’t cooperate. I had to close out my Annuities and send him the money to save guard my money is what I was told in the amount of $11,300.00 and $6,500.00 in gift cards from Target, it went to the attention of Zack Yetter, 503 East 8th Ave., Yuma, CO 80759 on 04/02/2020. The has was taken of the case and a Michael Williams, Federal ID #42932, phone #609-337-6941 continued if I didn’t cooperate they were going to issue a warrant for my arrest and I believed it. He had me refinance my home which I did and send him the money and I did. First it was $30,000.00 to a Ronny Vessar, 1130 N Lebanon St., Lebanon, IN 46052 and the second one was for $32,000.00 sent to Ronald Brown, 3275 E Sate Rd 32, Westfield, IN 46074. Michael kept stating I would get all my money back when the investigation was over. I also sent Michael $3,500 in Gif Cards from Target and to mail the packages were $255.84. He even gave me a court date of September 10, 2020 which I waited for a time and never received it. He even requested a picture of my Driver’s License and I sent it so that will be a problem. That is when I discovered that it was all not true and I had been scammed.

A man asked if I could hear him. I said yes before thinking. One man transferred me to another man. I was accused of fraud involving my social security check fraudulently deposited in a bank in Texas. They told me my SS number was being suspended. I’m not sure how they got my phone number, since the phone I have is not in my name. but I realized it was a scam at that point. I had a SS check stolen from me many months ago and deposited in an account in Texas. I don’t live in Texas, but the only ones who would know about my check being cashed in Texas would be SS. and the thief who stole my check. I tried to look up the phone number they called from and all I could get was it was it is a california cell phone number which I already knew.

I have had four calls this afternoon. I have already reported these calls. I called the number back and it is a business number and the others were personal numbers. Please these calls would scare others, however, I know that these are scams. I do not speak at all. The name each time is a lower male voice and it is recorded. There is a request to push a number ‘1’ to find out more information, and of course, that is when the scammer would attempt to get your actual information. Type of a scam Government Agency Imposter

This was a scam that affected my elder mom on Thursday, March 5th. The called her on her cell phone and said that they were from Social Security. They advised her that there was some fraud conducted with her SSN and that her SSN was stolen and used to rent a car in Texas. They then advised her that a murder had taken place with the car and the car was found with blood all over it. They told her that to take care of the problem because they were coming after her the following day that she had to go to the bank and withdraw all of her money. They told her she had to stay with them on the phone as she drove to the bank to withdraw all of her money and then they told her she had to go to Macy’s and buy Gift Cards. Sadly, they scared her so badly that she complied and did not think to just hang up and call us (her kids) to see what she should do so that we could stop her.

She went to the bank and proceeded to take out all of her money that she has saved for a long time which is not much but was ALL the money she had – $7,000!!!!! No questions asked by the bank as to why a 74 year old lady would want to withdraw all of her money and gave her the $7,000in cash. The scammers then told her to drive to Macy’s and buy gift cards with the money. And sadly, she did this also. And again, no questions asked by the Macy’s clerk as to why a 74 year old lady is buying $7,000 worth of gift cards with all CASH! The scammers then made her scratch off all the backs of the cards and text the pictures to them, which she also did 🙁 By the time my mother was done and called me and I immediately knew it was a scam and told her to go back to Macy’s and cancel all the cards and get her money back – the cards had all been spent across several states some of which included Bronx, NY and in Texas I believe.

I am still trying to argue with Macys about their policy for first allowing someone to sell a 74 year old lady $7,000 in gift cards with all cash and then also their policy for the use of these cards…. obviously they were bought in California and used within an hour at all different locations in many different states in the hopes that they will realize it was a scam and stop the delivery of the goods purchased with these cards and refund my mom her money!

I also think it’s a good idea for the news to air something about this so that others (not just our elders) do not fall for this scam!

He said something about Safeguard Wallet. He asked if I was married. He said he would send somebody today to my house with $10,000 and a new Social Security card. He told me I would be arrested and go to jail for 7 years if I didn’t put my money in a SafeGuard Wallet. He told me to go to Walgreens, Walmart and Best Buy. He told me to get $500 on each card. He told me not to talk to anybody, it’s supposed to be private. He asked me how much money I had in the bank, and I told him. Then he told me to go to the Credit Union and take out $10,000. My teller did not ask me any questions. Then I bought eBay cards at Walgreens, and Walmart cards, and Best Buy cards at Krogers. None of the clerks asked me anything. I went back to the car, and read the security numbers off the backs of the cards to him. This morning, he called back, and said he needed an additional $5000 to save my money from hackers. I said no, I’m not giving you any more money, and I shouldn’t have given you that. He threatened to have the law come after me within 45 minutes to take me to jail. I told him I wasn’t giving him any more money. I went back to Homeland Credit Union to put a security number on my account. They said it was a scam. My wife has Alzheimer’s. Social Security scam calls began 2.4.20. The message is that my Social Security number is linked to drugs dealing in Raleigh, Texas. Documents in a house raid had my social Security number on them. Initially I spoke w/Sangra. She had the last 4 digits of my Social Security number. She assigned me a case file number ***. After a preliminary screening, she transferred my call to another woman who said she was an officer. She wanted to issue me a new Social Security number, and tie all of my finances to that. I said I would like at something in the mail, but not over the phone. She said if you hang up, we’ll issue a warrant and arrest you, and issue a warrant from the Bench. She didn’t speak good English. Had a Middle Eastern accent. I could hear others in background. She wanted to know how much credit was left on my credit cards, and whether I had a 401K plan. I told them how much I had, but didn’t share account numbers.

Received phone call from (844) 378 0281. We have an answering recording and when we heard the name Social Security my wife picked the receiver she was asked her SS number. She did tell him her number and he said it was being used in El Paso, TX. and was asked if she had a credit card and if her balance was $80,000. She replied no and said her balance was $183.00. The person (male) then said to call him back in 30 minutes while he verified this information. He also asked if our address was 13101 NE13th Ave., Amarillo, TX and she said yes. We became suspicious and at that time because we heard that SS didn’t make phone calls. I told them to mail this information to us since they already had our address and hung up. We realized that he caught my wife off guard and she gave out her SS #. Hopefully nothing will come of this but definitely wanted to report this incident. Thank You.

Instead I contacted SS and reported the scam. About 2 hours later I received a second call stating my numbers had been blocked & to call. The message was a recorded type message in a woman’s voice. I have saved the messages.

Caller ID shows a phone call from Hinton, WV….I do not answer. Call waits 5 minutes and then rapid fires two more calls to me. I begin to think this may be an emergency, so I answered it. Caller begins speaking very quickly about recording this call and wants to discuss what I owe on Social Security?? Caller then wants to clear things up and begins to tell me he needs information and I shout "NO" and hang up.

We received a call at 7:15 am from the social security administration wanting to verify information on my husband. The caller ID said: Unavailable. I told my husband not to answer it, but he did. When I checked on the number, I found it to be not a valid number. I tried to call them back and it said not a valid number. The web research revealed its a scam. Please inform senior citizens to not talk to these people! We haven’t lost money or our ID yet, but who knows what’s in store since my husband talked to them!!

  1. I had the same experience with Benjamin S Alpert with the same badge number. Phone number out of Clear Lake, Iowa told me all the stuff of my I’d being compromised and even sent the Badge ID complete with the photo and date the badge was issued then transferred me to Eric P. Kressman who also provided his badge numberA2713A41 also dated April 30, 2020. He must have been the muscle man as he threatened to call the county sheriff out to arrest me if I didn’t cooperate. Very hostile. Said hundreds of cards had been issued in my name and millions charged used by sources overseas! Would never directly answer my questions…aggressive! He wanted me to go to the bank immediately and withdraw all but $10,000 I had in my life’s savings and if I spoke to anyone in the next 48 hours I would be arrested. If I spoke to anyone it could compromise the case! I argued that this sounded like a scam and I was not all comfortable with what I was being told to do. I told him I wouldn’t do it and he said he would be sending out the police. I told him go ahead. No police arrived. I went to the bank and told them I had just been scammed I believed that my money could be compromised and wanted a certified check to remove all but a couple thousand. The bank manager came and spoke to me and I explained. He agreed it was a scam and they would put a watch on my account and asked if I had received any letter from SSA about the case. None. He told me SSA and Medicare will never e-mail or call about ANY issue. He gave me an instruction sheet to help me contact one of the 3 credit companies that maintain your credit records and all loans, credit card apps go thru them to see if the applicant is in good credit standing. My credit was checked and there was no attempts for credit cards or loans made in my name. My little voice kept saying this is a scam and thank goodness I listened! This morning they had the gall to call me again and I hung up on them and blocked the number! This all started from a woman calling about an order made on my Amazon account for computer equipment and she stated what credit cards were used from banks I have never used. She wanted to know if I wanted to cancel the order….YES! And if I wanted to talk to the Crime Division to prosecute. Enter Benjamin S. Alpert and the con began. Thinking back I remember getting this same woman with the same spiel. Interestingly, all three had very strong accents which I believe from India or that area. Very difficult to understand.

  2. My elderly mother was scammed by Eric P Kressman, badge A2713A41 dated April 30, 2020. Threatened to arrest her if she didn’t cooperate. Told to withdraw all of her money, and send pictures of her bank account to show that she had complied. Purchased 5000 in Target gift cards from Frys, and then 2000 in Apple cards. She then was instructed to take pictures of the cards + their pins as “good faith”. Told not to speak to anyone about this for 48H or she would be arrested. She then went to withdraw all of her money from savings in cash, and instructed on how to package the cash in a shoebox, wrap it in craft paper, and place it in a larger box. Then brought to UPS and told to ship next day air to a location in California, no signature needed. Turns out the address was an unoccupied house listed for rent.
My sister and I could not convince her that this was a scam, and she refused to discuss the issue with us (still in fear of repercussions from Mr Kressman). She then tried to tell us that the issue would be resolved in 48H (this is after she had sent money).

  3. They are still out here trying to scam people with the same tactic. They called me saying they were Amazon Fraud and that someone had bought AirPods on my account. Then they told me that my SSN was stolen and someone had opened three bank accounts in my name. They started asking me about all my different accounts and I realized this sounded like total BS. The guy told me his name was Eric Kressman and even sent me a fake ID trying to prove that he was some government agent. I’m at home sick with covid right now so it’s even more fucked up because my brain is all foggy and I can’t think as clearly as normal. This is so evil that they try and prey on people by telling them their financial lives are ruined. Don’t get scammed by these assholes! The phone number they called me with was 712-414-0515, but I’m sure it’s already out of service.

  4. This is crazy they been doing this for so long and they haven’t gotten caught yet.I’m just scrolling I’m seeing people’s complaints and stories that’s going back 3 yrs ago and the same thing happened to me 2 days ago.I got a call from Amazon saying that I’m getting an iPhone delivered so I told him that I don’t have an account from Amazon and then this guy Jeff Roy,right there I knew that was a fake name.He was saying that I have 3 accounts at Amazon.A yeah ago I gave my roommate’s wife my social security number cuz we were looking for an apartment so I thought it was her that opened up accounts. So what he told me what I can do is freeze my social security number so we can catch him but I have to take out my money that’s in my checking and my savings,Idk why I didn’t keep the money but he told me it’s best if I put it in a gift card and then I could get a cashier’s check the next day by the officer Benjamin Alpert, so I felt for it and then took a picture of my license and the gift card and text it to him,Idk what I was thinking. He even wanted me to take out my money from my 401K but I have to tell them don’t tell them about the investigation thank God I didn’t do it I had that feeling it was a scam and I was right the whole time but I lost $500 thank God It was only that what kind of people are these taking money from people that works so hard for it and then take it away just like that. I hope they get these people and show them on TV on the news so we can see how they look like cuz they deserve to go to jail for at least 20 years
