I have received four phone calls today trying to convince me that my social security number has been compromised. The first call said there is a lawsuit and magistrate court in Texas. The second call said they were discontinuing my number. I let the following two phone calls go to voice mail and no surprise, they didn’t leave a message.

If one person has received four calls today I can’t imagine how many other people have received these same calls today.

Maybe a news media story again. Social Security is pretty serious and some people still don’t understand not to engage with these people.

Called advising my SSN would be suspended if I did not respond to their "attempts to contact", I selected the #1 option and it forwarded me to a call center where they asked why I was calling, I explained that they called me and she proceeded to ask for my caseID. I informed her I did not have one as again, they contacted me and she then asked for my SSN, I advised i do not provide this information over the phone to unknown contacts and she just hung up on me. It was obviously a call center as I heard several people in the background fielding calls.

Greetings,

I received a voicemail from an automated message stating that if i don’t call this number back that legal action would be taken against me. When I called the number a man with a foreign accent answered and said "hello social security administration. can i help you?" I told him that you his office must have just called me and left me a voicemail. He asked for my name, i gave it to him, then he asked for my social security number, i would not give that to him, but I gave him my phone number and told him to look it up in his system. There were clearly other people on the phone talking to others in the background. This person then told me that there has been illegal activity done by me in the state of Texas and they are going to freeze my social security account if I don’t "take action now." I told him that he was full of s*** and was a scam artist and that I would be sending the phone number to the authorities. Please warn others about this type of scam so that they do not give their social security number to bad actors over the phone or even attempt to pay bad actors to stop the action taken against their social security account.

I received a robo call saying that my S.S.# had been used fraudulently and that it was going to be suspended. To speak with a rep press 1. I did so. I was told that there was fraudulent use of my card and that it would be suspended I.T. I didn’t understand and numerous times asked the person (who I now think was an imposter) to slow down as I have a hearing impairment. The line was quite noisy with static which is why I was suspecting from the start. But I went forward as I’ve just started receiving unemployment from WA State and was concerned that if this was real it could impact my benefits. The person on the phone said she was: Officer Sophia James Badge # 37894 of the S.S. Administration. When I later asked her location she said S.S. HQ in Baltimore MD. I was told that this call was being recorded for use by three agencies: Federal Trade Commission, the Better Business Bureau and the Financial Crime Enforcement Network. This also seemed odd but I went ahead as I was told there was a warrant out for my arrest and that I was being investigated. Several times I stopped to ask if I should be getting representation (like speaking with a lawyer) as I had never been notified of either the fraud nor any criminal activity being associated with me and I have not committed any crime. When I still thought this might be more legit I noted that WA state Unemployment office is having thousands of fraudulent claims and I wondered if this issue might be related to my UEI. I was given this number as a record number (not sure for which record, she was talking quickly and I was trying to write it all down): 02954698. I was told that according to the local sheriff there were two houses where criminal drug trafficking was taking place and that the purchase of these homes was associated with my SS# as were several bank accounts and money laundering including 20K transfer of funds to Mexico. Was I familiar with these addresses: 1245 E. 16th Ave El Paso Tx and 7609 Oscent Ave El Paso Tx. I answered no & that I’ve never been to that part of Texas, have no bank account at the 5 banks she asked me about, haven’t recently lost a credit/debit, ss card or wallet, don’t use drugs nor drink. I again asked her questions to ascertain the legitimacy of the call. She said that Marshalls had all ready given all my information and that I needed to answer true answers now in order for my S.S.# to not be seized. She then asked me for all my addresses. I said I was in the process of changing one. I asked her to give the addresses and she said I had to give them. I went along and gave all three of my addresses (mailing, former residence, current residence) naming my current one as current. (Of everything I said, I’m most concerned that they have this info about my residential address and UE insurance). Her tone became more threatening when I said I’d like more information and to see what I need to do on my end before answering further. So we went on a bit further… She said "You sound like an innocent person. We already have all your information. We need your true answers. You sound honest.. if your info does not match I cannot help you further. You try to give your best. Then we’ll submit it in the courthouse. We are making sure you’re not the criminal." She asked how many cars or trucks I had. I said two. She asked what class of drivers’ lic Regular or commercial. I answered. She demanded I give the names of my banks. I said no. She hung up.

I received a phone call from the Social Security Administration (Anna Hudson – badge # GST7010) informing me that my social security number has been involved in a criminal activity. I later learned that it was potential murder, drug trafficking and money laundering. The agent transferred my call to the DEA agent (Draven Lewis) who said that they were going to suspend my social security number and all my bank accounts. That the ‘court’ put my case on hold until my meeting on Friday with the DEA agents. The crimes described were very elaborate: a car rented in my name was found with blood in the trunk and drug residue. When they traced the car to an address in southern Texas, they found 22 pounds of cocaine. He stated that over 33 different credit cards were opened in my name over the past 3 months and that I had transferred over $4.5 million. This all had taken place about a month ago (finding of the car). He claimed since I had no criminal past and a clean record, they were given me the courtesy of this phone call. When I pushed back demanding to have any of this information verified, he called me from another number (202-307-7596) that is supposed to be registered to an office at 600 Army Navy Drive in Arlington, VA. I couldn’t verify either. When I told him that I was an attorney, that I had already given too much information and that it felt like a scam, he said this was the first time anyone every had him verify his information. I told him that at this point, if they have all this evidence against me to just issue the arrest warrant, and we’ll clarify this in court.

This was very scary and intimidating until I had to think about it – I have a credit alert on my SS# and if over 30 credit cards were opened, I would have received some alert.

So now, I must really check my accounts.

The caller claimed I had 4 complaints against my SSN; that i was involved in criminal activity around the world. That identity thieves had opened 24 credit card accounts under my SSN. That if I did not cooperate the SSA would freeze my SSN and seize all of my assets. He wanted to confirm my local banks that i have accounts with. He then claimed the only way to save my current assets was to go to the bank and withdrawal all of my savings in cash and convert it to a Target Gift Card long enough to issue me a new SSN. I could then present the card to my local bank and they could retrieve the cash on the Target Gift Card. If i did not comply with his requests then i would be turned over to the police department and arrested for criminal activity. I finally indicated i would not comply, he got angry and told me good luck, i was on my own in proving i was not involved in criminal activity. Seconds after he hung up i received a call from the Amarillo Police Dept. local non-emergency phone number asking why i would not comply with the SSA and that a warrant would issued for my arrest. I told them to come get me and hung up.

She talked to an agent who told her they were trying to help her and her information had been found in a car on the border with quite a few other people’s credit cards and she was going to jail if she did not give him access to her bank account right away, DL# and SS#.

The reason I know it was CreditRepair.com is because I called the number back and reached them.

My husband initially answered the phone when they called, they were claiming that his Social Security number is being frozen due to illegal activity. We had just gotten our checks yesterday so we knew something was off. They wanted us to call them at this number to discuss the situation. When I called, I got a guy with a foreign accent. I asked what it was about and he said, "listen to the recording". I told him I didn’t and wanted to know what was going on and he hung up.

Got a call on my cell phone and was left a message from a robo-call. I assume they want me to believe that they are with the Social Security Office. It said, my Social Security Number had been frozen by an Officer Agent and that if I pressed 1 or called them at *** *** I could discuss it with the Officer Agent. It also said, "I see that you did not press 1. I am disappointed, please press 1 now." When I didn’t press it (because it was a voicemail), it said, "I see you did not press 1. Have a blessed day."

Received a call from a lady saying she was from the Social Security Administration. She started out by saying they are updating their files and went on to inquire about my income, what you are bringing in, bank statements, other income, whether or not I am on medicare, m.a., or anything else. She wanted to know what my address is (I gave it to her) and my phone number. My question is would the SSA call and inquire about these things? Or was this a scam?

Thank You

The person called saying that they were from the Social Security Administration and did I set up an account recently and would I answer questions for him. Because I had recently set up an account, I asked him for a number to call him back. At this point, he hung up on me. He called AGAIN today and said the same thing. I told him he had already called me before and again he hung up. He called me on my cell phone number which I seldom give out. I do not think this was a random call.
