Type of a scam Online Purchase
I have been helping my mom look for an RV online, mostly through Craigslist. My mom sent me a post about a 2007 Itasca Suncruiser. The price was $8,000 firm. The seller’s name is Yvette Barrett. She posted the RV for the Charlotte, NC area. I messaged her regarding the RV and asked if we could come take a look at it. She proceeded to tell me her husband passed away and her and her daughter moved to Sioux Falls, SD to be closer to her parents. Ok, that’s not that suspicious but I asked her how she planned to sell it to someone so far away. She told me she contracted with a shipping company called SD-Shippers to ship it and that she was going to handle all the shipping costs and she only needed my name, number, and address to forward to the shipping company so they can send me an invoice. She also said I would have to pay the shipping company and they would "hold it" for five days and let me make sure I want it and if not I can send it back "at her expense." That raised a red flag so I waited to get the email and they said I would have to do a bank wire transfer. She told me once I paid they would ship it out with the title, deed, etc. all included. Yeah, right. I decided to just see what she would say so I messaged her and said I wouldn’t be able to do a bank transfer I could only do cash. She then responded erratically with a lot of exclamation points saying I could send them cash and basically becoming inpatient. I told her I was not stupid enough to send any money with no proof of who it was going to or that I was actually going to get what I paid for. She has yet to respond back. SD-Shippers does have an actual website of you put in what they gave me but I looked for the company on my own and found NO EVIDENCE that it actually existed, even though on their website they have supposedly been around for years. Please heed my advise and DO NOT send any money for any purchases through Craigslist or other similar websites without having seen it in person.
